Dog Show Near Vikasnagar: Dehradun Championship Show, Dec 6

What is the road distance from Vikasnagar to the Dehradun show?

About 37 km by road (approximate). Dehradun lies south-east of Vikasnagar, which is a town in the western part of Dehradun district, on the Yamuna side of the Doon valley.

The listing names the city and not the ground, so the distance is to Dehradun and the exact figure depends on the venue. Check a live map on the morning you travel.

Is Sunday 6 December a full day out from Vikasnagar?

At about 37 km by road (approximate) each way, this is the longer end of the town guides for this show, so it suits an early start and a late return. The schedule gives no opening time, which makes a call to the secretary the first job.

If you only want to see one breed, find out when its ring is judged before you set out. That saves a long wait on site.

Who looks after the dog while you are at the show?

Nothing is listed on pets, so make a plan at home in Vikasnagar for your own dog. A long day away is easier on a dog that has had a walk first and has someone to check on it.

Entering a dog from the Vikasnagar side

The club, not Pupps & Stud, takes the entries. No entry rules or closing date appear on the listing, so ask Doon Valley Kennel Club whether a place is still open. The secretary can be reached on the mobile number shown on the event guide.

Questions to settle from Vikasnagar before the trip

• The time the first ring opens, which the KCI listing leaves out
• The venue within Dehradun
• Visitor admission, fee and parking
• Whether the 72nd and 73rd are run back to back or at once
• How early to leave, given the road is about 37 km each way (approximate)

Where do the other Dehradun town guides lead?

Vikasnagar has company on the list: Doiwala at about 22 km, Mussoorie at about 35 km and Rishikesh at about 42 km from the show city (all by road, approximate), each with its own plan.

What should a Vikasnagar family weigh before choosing a breed?

Match the dog to the time you have each day. A breed with high energy and a dense coat needs regular exercise and brushing, whatever it looks like in a show ring. Write down the needs listed in each breed guide before you phone a breeder.

Finding a puppy from Vikasnagar

Insist on seeing the KCI registration paper and the dam with her puppies before you pay anything. Pupps & Stud lists KCI-registered puppies from verified breeders, and a puppy buyer consultation helps if you are comparing breeds.

Breeders around Vikasnagar

A breeder in the Vikasnagar area can register on Pupps & Stud and list KCI-registered puppies, so a buyer from the western Doon valley can find them without a long search.
