Dog Show Near Diamond Harbour: Kolkata Championship Show, Nov 21-22

How far do Diamond Harbour visitors travel to reach Kolkata?

About 60 km by road (approximate), heading north-east. Diamond Harbour is in South 24 Parganas district, on the Hooghly, and is the longest trip among the Kolkata town guides. The KCI listing gives only the city, so check the venue with the club.

Should I stay overnight from Diamond Harbour?

It depends on what you want to see. A single-day trip is possible if you leave early and stay for the rings you came for. If you want to cover the all breeds rings and the Dobermann or Obedience events across both days, an overnight stay is easier than two long journeys.

The listing does not say which event runs on which day, so ring the secretary before you book.

What should an exhibitor from Diamond Harbour prepare?

A dog travelling about 60 km (approximate) needs rest before it enters the ring. Plan a stop for water, keep the dog cool, and leave enough time to groom. Ask North Calcutta Kennel Club which documents and confirmation to carry.

No closing date is listed, and the entry window for this edition may have passed.

Is it worth the distance for a spectator?

If you want to see a lot of breeds in one place, yes. A championship show brings many breeds and handlers into one venue, and you can compare dogs that you would otherwise only see in photos. For a casual visit, choose a single day.

What do Diamond Harbour visitors need to decide first?

• Whether to travel on one day, both days, or stay overnight in Kolkata
• The venue and start time, because the trip is about 60 km (approximate) and a wrong guess costs a lot of time
• Which events you want, as three share the weekend
• Rest and water stops for an exhibitor’s dog

Shorter trips to Kolkata from nearby towns

If a 60 km trip (approximate) sounds long, the guides for Budge Budge and Baruipur, both about 30 km from Kolkata, and Uluberia at about 35 km, plan the same weekend as a shorter outing.

How do I research a breed near Diamond Harbour?

Use the breed guide to compare size, coat and exercise needs. Then speak to breeders about the dogs they have shown, because a breeder who campaigns a dog knows its strengths and its faults.
